Cool Tools for the 21st Century Classroom

Save Ink & Paper with Print Friendly

March24

Print Friendly is a nifty service that optimizes and formats web pages for a perfect print experience.  This Web 2.0 tool removes ads, text, navigation information and images so the user can save both paper and ink when printing necessary documents.  The best part is that this application is free and super easy to use!  Documents formatted utilizing the Print Friendly site can also be converted to a PDF and saved for later usage.

How does this “Cool Tool” work?  Simply copy the URL of the web site you wish to print and copy this address in the space provided on the Print Friendly home page.  Then click the “print preview” button to view the desired web page in a “junk-free” setting.

In addition to the copy and paste feature, a Print Friendly bookmarklet can also be added to your favorite browser for quick and easy access.  For those of you who host your own web site, blog and/or wiki, a Print Friendly widget is available—an option that allows visitors to print an ad-free, navigation bar-free version of any page on your site.

Classroom Connection:

Print Friendly can be utilized when you and/or your students need to print documents from the Internet.  Imagine the money that can be saved from reducing the use of paper and ink – especially when students are completing research projects!  Besides the obvious, Print Friendly also removes unnecessary information from articles to create a distraction-free  printed document for all levels of readers.

Your technology coordinator will even love you for introducing this tool to your classroom!
