Take a Trip to Vocabulary Spelling City!
Looking for a way to promote literacy skills in your classroom? Then be sure to schedule a trip to Vocabulary Spelling City, a fun place to learn vocabulary and spelling words through a variety of engaging games.
This cool resource offers users a database of more than 42,000 words and sentences—both of which can be customized for students. By creating an account, teachers can even design their own custom lists to meet curricular needs.
Once the words lists are determined, students can learn the correct spelling, meaning and pronunciation through the use of numerous practice activities that provide them with the opportunity to play games, study words and/or quiz themselves.
Don’t have access to a computer? No problem! Teachers, students and parents can also print activities for classroom and/or home use.
Besides these free products, Vocabulary Spelling City offers teachers a premium service with additional features—tracking of student progress, removal of advertising and additional learning, vocabulary and differentiation activities.
Don’t want to pay for the upgrade? No worries! Vocabulary Spelling City has been approved for funding by Adopt-a-Classroom.org. Visit this web site to find out how you can request donations to cover a premium membership for your classroom!
And last but not least—with the recent launch of the Vocabulary Spelling City app, students can now access their word lists anytime, anywhere via an iPad and/or iPhone.
Vocabulary Spelling City—where learning never ends!
Classroom Connection:
Integrate Vocabulary Spelling City into your curriculum whenever you need a fun and educational way to engage students in the learning and/or reinforcement of words related to your content area, project, activity, novel, etc.
My students love, love using Vocabulary Spelling City to practice learning their word lists! In fact, whenever there is a spare minute between activities in the computer lab or in the classroom, they always ask for permission to access the Spelling City wikispace I have created for them. This page contains links to the word lists (and corresponding activities) I have compiled on the Vocabulary Spelling City web site.
Considering going paperless in the Language Arts classroom? Vocabulary Spelling City would be an awesome way to get started! It’s also a great tool for learning centers!
Thank you so much for this great post! We are thrilled to hear that you are enjoying the site. Thanks again for helping to spread the word about VocabularySpellingCity! 🙂
