Let’s face it—teacher’s love freebies for their classrooms! Now that we have established that fact, those of you who share the addiction will most definitely want to check out the Teaching Library, a must-see website that shares lesson plan ideas and other resources linked to a variety of fiction and non-fiction children’s books and literature.

So, how does this fabulous website work? Browse the Teaching Library by category, author or theme to select a book and let the instructional ideas unfold!  Each book is accompanied with a brief summary followed by a plethora of teaching resources in the following categories: Literacy, math, science, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), geography, art, music, history, physical education, foreign languages and more!

If available, the site also shares related video content—complete with suggestions for integrating the media into a lesson (i.e. author interviews, film version of the story, etc.)

But wait! There’s more… Teaching Library also provides teachers with additional downloadable materials and links associated with the book selected.

Can’t find your favorite book in the Teaching Library? No problem! There’s even a “General Ideas” section offering teachers lessons for use with any book!

Lastly, need a hard-copy of a selection? Click on the “Buy This Book” button located on each resource page for a direct link to the Amazon site where one can make purchases.

OK, I can’t imagine that there’s a Reading teacher out there that wouldn’t go crazy over the Teaching Library!  I mean, what’s not to love? Whether you’re looking for a book recommendation to read to/with your students or maybe you just need some cool ideas to extend and enrich literacy and learning… Whatever the case—this is one site I highly recommend adding to your teacher toolbox!
