Meet the “All-stars” of the Orchestra with Perfect Pitch
Hey, what’s the score? Well, once your students experiment with Perfect Pitch, an interactive learning tool designed to introduce students to the instruments of the orchestra, they’ll be able to give you that answer—and much more!
This nifty game, produced by the Kennedy Center’s ArtsEdge web resource, teaches students about the instruments in the orchestra through a familiar setting: baseball. Yep, students “take the field” to complete three tasks: Meet the Players, Create a Lineup and Play Ball.
To meet the players, students select an era (Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Modern) and then round the bases to learn the basics about individual instruments from the time period (i.e. family), the “all-stars” (famous musicians who played the instrument) and other fun facts.
Students can also create their own line-up by assigning players (instruments) to musical positions to build a team. When the roster is finalized, users can listen to the mix that has been created and make adjustments if they don’t like what they hear.
After meeting the players and producing some music, students can play ball by stepping up to the plate and taking a swing at answering some questions about the orchestra via short quizzes pertaining to the instruments and their sounds.
