Cool Tools for the 21st Century Classroom

Listen to the Web with SoundGecko

July23

Listen to any article from the Web, on the go, anywhere, anytime! Really? Yep, it’s true! With SoundGecko, a free service that converts text to mp3 files, users can multi-task while listening to articles located on the Internet.

It’s as simple as finding an article of interest, emailing the URL to SoundGecko and hanging out while the mp3 is being processed. Once the text to audio conversion is complete, the user receives an email that looks something like this:

SoundGecko can be utilized without creating an account, but additional features are provided to registered users. For example, mp3s can be synched to home, work and mobile devices using Google Drive and Dropbox.

Want to make your life even easier? Then be sure to download the SoundGecko iPhone app so you can access your playlist on the go and even share articles with friends!

What’s more—users have the option of installing the Chrome extension for one-click access to SoundGecko. Tagging articles for later listening has never been easier!

Classroom Connection:

SoundGecko is a great tool for promoting literacy and listening skills. Using audio files to independently convey information and/or to accompany oral or silent readings provides all types of students with a variety of learning experiences.
