Cool Tools for the 21st Century Classroom

Mugshot Madness

August14

Ever wished you had an official looking mugshot without actually having to do the crime—or the time? Regardless of the answer, check out Mugshot Maker, an iOS app that allows users to create—you guessed it—a mugshot! And a pretty neat one at that.

The fun begins with taking a photo or select an existing picture of the culprit from your camera roll. Users then have the opportunity to choose one of two mugshot templates that can be customized with the culprit’s personal information—which includes the “crime” they have committed. Additional tools allow users to adjust color andĀ  background height while the eraser can be used to change the appearance of the image.

Once the mugshot is complete, users are taken into custody. Then the image can be shared via email, Facebook or the camera roll for later use.

Check out an example I created using a photo of my favorite boys (after I gave them fake beards and tattoos!):

Classroom Connection:

UseĀ Mugshot Maker in conjunction with any project or activity that requires the use of a fun image of students. For example, I am planning to incorporate this “cool tool” as an icebreaker at the beginning of the upcoming school year. Students will first utilize the photos they take of one another while learning to use the built-in camera on the iPad. Then they will experiment with the app to create a mugshot conveying something unique about themselves. Finished products will be shared with classmates and then added to our project wiki.

Mugshot Maker can also be used to create avatars for wikis, blogs and other social networking sites.
