Road to Grammar: Your Highway to Improved Reading & Writing!
As educators we understand the importance of students acquiring grammar skills. It is the foundation upon which one builds command over any language. At the same time, however, we also face the problem of student resistance—especially to the traditional and often redundant methods of teaching these skills.
Avoid some of these pitfalls by introducing your students to Road to Grammar, an interactive resource featuring quizzes, games and lessons on a wide variety of topics ranging from adjectives and prepositions to idioms and easily confused words. Whatever grammar concept you are teaching, chances are pretty good that it lives on this site!
The quizzes—over 300 of them—provide instant feedback as well as notes to explain why an answer is correct or not. Before taking quizzes, users can even work through a series of practice activities and games developed to teach and/or reinforce specific skills.
In addition to the aforementioned, Road to Grammar also provides teachers and students with a number of downloadable resources (i.e. 100 Conversation Questions to Start Your Lesson) that can be integrated into the classroom.
Though originally meant for ESL/ELL learners, this site is appropriate for middle and high school learners. If you are an elementary teacher, check out Road to Grammar Jr., the counterpart of Road to Grammar, designed specifically for younger students.
Classroom Connection:
Learning games can be a great vehicle for enhancing skills, motivating learners and generating interest in a topic. With that said, use Road to Grammar to engage students while adding some enjoyment to developing a grammar skill!
Road to Grammar activities, games and quizzes can be used for independent and/or whole group practice. Project the site via an interactive whiteboard or screen to introduce students to different types of grammar and/or to assess prior knowledge before beginning a new topic of study.
The Road to Grammar site can also be posted to a classroom web site, wiki and/or blog for students to use in the computer lab, when they are finished with an assignment and/or at home.
Bottom line: Don’t miss out on this well-kept secret!
